Indications/Uses
Constipation; hepatic encephalopathy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Constipation Adult Initially, 15-30 mL as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Then adjusted to patient's needs. Childn 6-12 yr 10 mL, 1-5 yr 5 mL, <1 yr 2.5 mL. To be given bd & gradually reduced.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Intestinal obstruction; low galactose diet.
Special Precautions
Lactose intolerance, diabetes.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal discomfort, flatulence & cramps; nausea & vomiting (high doses).
