Clobetasone butyrate
Indications/Uses
Relief of the inflammatory & pruritic manifestations of steroid responsive dermatoses. These include the following: Atopic dermatitis, irritant or allergic contact dermatitis, seborrhoeic dermatitis, nappy rash, photodermatitis, otitis externa, prurigo nodelaris, insect bite reactions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thinly & gently rub in using only enough to cover the entire affected area once daily or bd until improvement occurs, then reduce the frequency of application or change the treatment to a less potent prep.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Untreated cutaneous infections; rosacea; acne vulgaris; pruritus w/o inflammation.
Special Precautions
W/draw gradually or substitute a less potent corticosteroid in case of manifestations of hypercortisolism (Cushing's syndrome) & reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression. Contains cetostearyl alcohol which may cause local skin reactions (eg, contact dermatitis) & chlorocresol which may cause allergic reactions. Infection risk w/ occlusion. Skin should be cleaned before a fresh dressing is applied. Avoid prolonged application to face. Avoid contact w/ eyes. W/draw if there is spread of infection. Chronic leg ulcers. Renal or hepatic impairment (in case of systemic absorption). Pregnancy & lactation.
