Deferiprone
Indications/Uses
Chronic Fe overload in transfusional haemosiderosis especially in thalassaemia major. Idiopathic haemochromatosis, Fe poisoning.
Dosage/Direction for Use
25 mg/kg tds.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Neutropenia, agranulocytosis. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Monitor neutrophil counts wkly. Interrupt therapy if patient develops an infection.
Adverse Reactions
Reddish discolouration of the urine, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting. Rarely, neutropenia, agranulocytosis.
