Dosage/Direction for Use
20 mg Adult Prevention of NSAID-induced gastroduodenal ulcer 20 mg/day. Adult & adolescent ≥12 yr Symptomatic GERD 20 mg/day for 2-4 wk. Long-term management & prevention of relapse in reflux oesophagitis Maintenance dose 20 mg/day. May increase up to 40 mg/day in case of relapse. 40 mg Adult Eradication of H. pylori in combination w/ antibiotics 40 mg bd w/ amoxicillin 1000 mg bd & clarithromycin 500 mg bd OR 40 mg bd w/ metronidazole 400-500 mg bd (or tinidazole 500 mg bd) & clarithromycin 250-500 mg bd OR 40 mg bd w/ amoxicillin 1000 mg bd & metronidazole 400-500 mg bd. Gastric ulcer 40 mg/day for 4 wk. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other pathological hypersecretory conditions Initially 80 mg in 2 divided doses. Adult & childn ≥12 yr Reflux oesophagitis 40 mg/day for 4 wk.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before meals. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to pantoprazole & substituted benzimidazoles.
Special Precautions
Hypomagnesemia. Increased risk of bacterial growth eg, Salmonella, Campylobacyter & Clostridium difficile in the upper GIT. Hepatic & renal impairment. Childn <12 yr.
Drug Interactions
Reduced absorption of cyanocobalamin due to hypo- or achlorhydria.
