Indications/Uses
OA, RA (including juvenile RA), ankylosing spondylitis, bursitis & tenosynovitis. As painkiller for post-traumatic pain (sprains, bruises, strains), post-surgical pain, dental pain, (toothache, tooth extraction); dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), headache. Antipyretic.
Dosage/Direction for Use
FC tab Adult & childn >12 yr Pain 1.2-1.8 g in 3-4 divided doses. Max: 2.4 g daily. Fever 200-400 mg every 4-6 hr. Max: 1.2 g daily. Childn 20 mg/kg in divided doses. Juvenile RA Up to 40 mg/kg in divided doses. Childn weighing <7 kg Not recommended. Oral susp Adult Pain 60-90 mL in 3-4 divided doses. Max: 120 mL/day. Fever 10-20 mL 4-6 hrly. Max: 60 mL/day. Childn 12-18 yr 10-20 mL tds-qds. Max: 120 mL/day. 10-12 yr 15 mL tds, 7-10 yr 10 mL tds, 4-7 yr 7.5 mL tds, 1-4 yr 5 mL tds, 6-12 mth 2.5 mL tds-qds.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to anti-inflammatory drugs. History of GI bleeding or perforation; peptic ulcer or active bleeding, severe heart failure, blood clotting disorders. Treatment of peri-op pain in patient in the setting of CABG surgery. Severe renal & hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Special Precautions
Risk of bleeding, ulceration or perforation may occur especially in patients w/ history of ulcer, hemorrhage or perforation & in elderly. History of inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease), HTN, heart failure or stroke, renal & hepatic dysfunction. SLE or other autoimmune diseases. Regularly evaluate liver & kidney function. Sugar intolerance or if allergic to dye or paraben. Concomitant use w/ selective inhibitors of COX-2, misoprostol or PPIs, aspirin, anticoagulants, SSRIs or other anti-platelet agents, corticosteroids or other NSAIDs. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Childn <12 yr (for FC tab).
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, dizziness, dyspepsia, flatulence, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, rash & itching, photosensitivity reactions, tinnitus, hearing impairment, headache, insomnia, confusion, somnolence, aseptic meningitis, hallucinations, asthma, bronchospasm, fever.
Drug Interactions
Medicines for rheumatism & for pain; alcohol; other NSAIDs; lithium; methotrexate. Increased effects of anticoagulants eg, warfarin & ticlopidine. May inhibit anti-platelet effect of other anticoagulants eg, anti-platelet agents, including acetylsalicylic acid. Increased GI ulceration or bleeding w/ corticosteroids & SSRIs. ACE inhibitors, β-blockers, angiotensin II antagonists, diuretics.
