Cetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of allergic rhinitis eg, sneezing; runny, itchy nose; itchy, watery eyes; allergic conjunctivitis; skin symptoms of allergy eg, itch & rash.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Syr Childn 6-12 yr 10 mL once daily or 5 mL bid, 2-5 yr 5 mL once daily or 2.5 mL bid. Oral drops Childn 2-5 yr 2 mL once daily or 1 mL bid, 12 mth to <2 yr 1 mL once daily or bid. Infant 6 to <12 mth 1 mL once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Kidney or liver disease. Exercise caution when engaging in activities requiring mental alertness.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness/sleepiness, sore throat, headache, nausea. Adult & childn ≥12 yr: Excessive tiredness, dry mouth, dizziness. Childn 6-11 yr: Stomach pain, coughing, diarrhea, bronchospasm, epistaxis, vomiting.
Drug Interactions
Increased toxicity w/ alcohol, medicines for anxiety or sleep disorder (eg, alprazolam, diazepam, chlordiazepoxide, temazepam, triazolam), medicines for depression (eg, amitriptyline, doxepin, nortriptyline, fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine), other cold or allergy medicines, or any other medicines that cause drowsiness, sleepiness & relaxation.
