Pioglitazone
Indications/Uses
Management of type II DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual dose: 15-30 mg daily. Max: 45 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hepatic impairment, history of heart failure, concomitant use w/ insulin. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Regular monitoring of liver function. CV disease. Substitute insulin during perioperative period.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycemia, headache, wt gain & anemia. Dizziness, GI disturbances, muscle cramps, dyspnea, pruritus & hypercholesterolemia. Other side effects include upper resp tract infection, hematuria, myalgia & visual disturbances.
