Salbutamol sulfate 2.5 mg, ipratropium Br 500 mcg
Indications/Uses
Management of reversible bronchospasm associated w/ obstructive airway diseases.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1 vial every 6-8 hr. Childn 2-12 yr 3 drops/kg/dose every 6-8 hr. Max: Salbutamol 2,500 mcg.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to salbutamol, ipratropium Br, atropine & its derivatives. Patients w/ hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy or tachyarrhythmia.
Special Precautions
Immediate hypersensitivity reactions. Patients predisposed to glaucoma; insufficiently controlled DM, recent MI, severe organic heart or vascular disorders, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, risk of narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy or bladder-neck obstruction; hypokalemia; cystic fibrosis; acute, rapidly worsening dyspnea. Avoid contact w/ eyes. Not to be mixed w/ other drugs in same nebulizer. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, nervousness, tachycardia, fine tremor of skeletal muscles & palpitations.
Drug Interactions
Side effects may be increased w/ other β-adrenergics & anticholinergics. β-agonist induced hypokalemia may be increased w/ xanthine derivatives, glucocorticosteroids & diuretics. May increase susceptibility to arrhythmias w/ digoxin. Potentially serious reduction in bronchodilator effects w/ β-blockers. β-adrenergic agonists action may be enhanced w/ MAOIs or TCAs. Susceptibility to CV effects of β-agonists may be increased w/ halogenated hydrocarbon anaesth eg, halothane, trichloroethylene, enflurane.
