Telmisartan
Indications/Uses
Alone or in combination w/ other antihypertensives for HTN.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Initially 40 mg once daily, may be increased to max of 80 mg based on BP response.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy (2nd & 3rd trimesters).
Special Precautions
Biliary obstructive disorders or hepatic insufficiency. Patients whose renal function may depend on activity of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (eg, patients w/ severe CHF). Unilateral or bilateral renal artery stenosis. Dizziness or drowsiness may occasionally occur when driving vehicles or operating machinery. Not recommended during 1st trimester of pregnancy. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Impotence, increased sweating, flushing; allergy, fever, leg pain, malaise; palpitation, dependent edema, abnormal ECG; insomnia, somnolence, migraine, vertigo, paresthesia, involuntary muscle contractions, hypoesthesia; flatulence, constipation, gastritis, vomiting, dry mouth, hemorrhoids, gastroenteritis, enteritis, gastroesophageal reflux, toothache, non-specific GI disorders; gout, hypercholesterolemia, DM; arthritis, arthralgia, leg cramps; anxiety, depression, nervousness; infection, fungal infection, abscess, otitis media; asthma, bronchitis, rhinitis, dyspnea, epistaxis; dermatitis, rash, eczema, pruritus; micturition frequency, cystitis; cerebrovascular disorder; abnormal vision, conjunctivitis, tinnitus, earache.
Drug Interactions
Increased digoxin peak plasma & trough conc. Slightly decreased mean warfarin trough plasma conc. Possible inhibition of metabolism of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
