Contents
Per 1.6 g vial Ticarcillin disodium 1.5 g, clavulanate K 100 mg. Per 3.2 g vial Ticarcillin disodium 3 g, clavulanate K 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of severe gm -ve infections, especially those due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Used in cystic fibrosis (resp tract infections), immunocompromised patients (neutropenia), peritonitis & septicemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Systemic infections & UTI ≥60 kg 3.1 g 4-6 hrly for 10-14 days. <60 kg 200-300 mg ticarcillin/kg/day in divided doses 4-6 hrly for 10-14 days. Gynecologic infections ≥60 kg Moderate: 200 mg/kg/day in divided doses 6 hrly. Severe: 300 mg/kg/day 4 hrly. <60 kg 200-300 mg/kg/day in divided doses 4-6 hrly. Childn ≥60 kg Mild to moderate infections 3.1 g 6 hrly. Severe 3.1 g 4 hrly. <60 kg Mild to moderate infections 200 mg/kg/day (dosed at 50 mg/kg/dose) 6 hrly. Severe 300 mg/kg/day (dosed at 50 mg/kg/dose) 4 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to β-lactam antibiotics.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment. Periodic monitoring of renal, hepatic, hematologic function & electrolyte conc during prolonged therapy. Discontinue use if bleeding manifestations occur. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Cholestatic jaundice & hepatitis; nausea, vomiting, coagulation disorders, hemorrhagic cystitis (more frequent in childn), inj site reactions, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, hypokalemia, eosinophilia.
Drug Interactions
Decreased renal tubular secretion w/ probenecid.
