Description
Each Clarityne Tablet contains loratadine 10 mg. It also contains the following ingredients: Lactose monohydrate, maize starch and magnesium stearate.
Action
Pharmacology: Loratadine is a potent, long-acting and non-sedating antihistamine.
Clarityne Tablet belongs to a class of medicines known as antihistamines. Antihistamines help to reduce allergic symptoms by preventing the effects of a substance called histamine, which is produced in the body.
Indications/Uses
Clarityne Tablet relieves symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis eg, sneezing, runny or itchy nose and burning or itchy eyes.
May also be used to help relieve symptoms of urticaria (itching, redness and number and size of hives).
Relief of these symptoms lasts a full day and helps the patient to resume normal daily activities and sleep.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adults & children 6 years and over >30 kg: 1 tablet once daily.
Patients with Hepatic Insufficiency: If the patient has severe liver problems, the pharmacist or physician may advise to take 1 tablet once every other day with a glass of water, with or without food.
Missed Dose: If the patient forgets to take a dose on time, take it as soon as possible and then go back to the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Administration: Clarityne Tablet can be taken with or without a meal. It has not been shown to add to the effects of an alcoholic drink.
Overdosage
Take Clarityne Tablet only as it is described in the directions. No serious problems are expected with accidental overdose. However, if the patient takes more than was told to, contact a pharmacist or physician immediately.
Sleepiness, rapid heartbeat and headache have been reported with overdoses of Clarityne Tablet.
Contraindications
Allergic (hypersensitive) to loratadine or any of other ingredients of Clarityne Tablet.
Special Precautions
Patients with liver disease should inform a physician before taking Clarityne Tablet.
If the patient is taking any other medicines, including medicine taken without a prescription, the patient should consult a physician before use.
Laboratory Tests: If the patient is scheduled to any skin tests for allergies, Clarityne Tablet should not be taken 2 days before the test.
Important Information About the Ingredients of Clarityne: Clarityne tablets contain lactose. If the patient has an intolerance to some sugars, the pharmacist or physician should be informed before taking Clarityne.
Effects on the Ability to Drive or Operate Machinery: At the recommended dose, Clarityne Tablet is not expected to cause drowsiness or less alertness. However, very rarely, some people experiences drowsiness, which may affect ability to drive or use machinery.
Use in pregnancy & lactation: If the patient is pregnant, taking Clarityne Tablet is not recommended. If the patient is nursing, taking Clarityne Tablet is not recommended. Loratadine is excreted in breast milk. The patient should ask for advice from a pharmacist or physician before taking Clarityne Tablet.

Adverse Reactions
Like all medicines, Clarityne Tablet can cause adverse reactions, although not all adverse reactions occur to every patient.
The most commonly reported adverse reactions in children 2-12 years include headache, nervousness and tiredness. The most commonly reported side effects in adults and adolescents include drowsiness, headache, increased appetite and difficulty sleeping.
During the marketing of Clarityne Tablet, cases of severe allergic reaction (including swelling), dizziness, irregular or rapid heartbeat, nausea (feeling sick), dry mouth, upset stomach, liver problems, hair loss, rash, convulsion and tiredness have been reported very rarely. It is not possible to determine how frequently these reactions may occur.
If the patient experience any of these adverse reactions or notice any not listed previously, the patient should stop taking Clarityne Tablet and contact a pharmacist or physician at once.
