Bilastine
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of allergic rhino-conjunctivitis (seasonal & perennial) & urticaria in adults & adolescents ≥12 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 20 mg once daily. Max: 20 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after intake of food, grapefruit juice or other fruit juices.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of QT prolongation &/or Torsades de pointes, including congenital long QT syndromes.
Special Precautions
Avoid co-administration w/ P-gp inhibitors eg, ketoconazole, erythromycin, cyclosporine, ritonavir or diltiazem in patients w/ moderate or severe renal impairment. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. 1st trimester pregnancy. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, headache, dizziness; upper abdominal pain.
Drug Interactions
Increased AUC & Cmax w/ ketoconazole or erythromycin. Increased Cmax w/ diltiazem. Decreased bioavailability w/ food & grapefruit juice.
