Recombinant human somatropin
Indications/Uses
Short stature in childn due to growth hormone deficiency (GHD), Turner syndrome, born small for gestational age (SGA).
Dosage/Direction for Use
GHD 0.5 IU/kg/wk or 12 IU/m2 BSA/wk. Administer in the evening. Turner syndrome 1 IU/kg/wk. SGA 1.44 IU/kg/wk. All doses to be divided into 6-7 SC inj.
Contraindications
DM, malignant tumor, closed epiphyses, short stature due to brain tumor.
Special Precautions
Heart & kidney disease, maturity-onset diabetes or childn w/ familial history of DM. Examine progression of tumor in patients w/ intracranial lesion before initiation of therapy. Hyperglycemia & ketosis may occur. Hypothyroidism may inhibit effect. Monitor for overfiltration w/ increasing renal plasma flow & GFR. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Pruritus, local skin rashes, pain at inj site; hypothyroidism, insulin resistance; ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase elevation; fever, edema, headache, lipoatrophy; increase of leukocytes, free fatty acid, serum P, creatine phosphokinase, myoglobin; microscopic hematuria, proteinuria. Papilloedema, dysopia, headache, nausea & vomiting accompanied by intracranial HTN.
Drug Interactions
Adrenocorticosteroid, glucocorticoids.
