Vit D3 (cholecalciferol)
Indications/Uses
Dietary supplement when vit D intake may be inadequate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 tab daily. Childn Individualized dose.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcaemia, evidence of vit D toxicity, malabsorption syndrome, hypervitaminosis D, abnormal sensitivity to vit D effects, decreased renal function.
Special Precautions
Adequate Ca diet. Progressive hypercalcemia. Bone lesions. Concomitant use w/ vit D. Hypoparathyroidism. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly w/ coronary disease, renal impairment & arteriosclerosis.
Adverse Reactions
Weakness, headache, somnolence, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, constipation, muscle & bone pain, metallic taste.
Drug Interactions
May develop hypermagnesemia w/ Mg-containing antacids in patients on chronic renal dialysis. May precipitate cardiac arrhythmias w/ digitalis glycosides. Atrial fibrillation may occur w/ verapamil when supplemental Ca is administered. Decreased conc & intestinal absorption (for Hello-D 2000 only) w/ cholestyramine. Synthetic & cationic enzymes may be inhibited by ketoconazole. Reduced absorption w/ mineral oil. Endogenous synthesis may be inhibited w/ phenytoin or phenobarb. May develop hypercalcemia w/ thiazide diuretics in hypoparathyroid patients.
