Indications/Uses
Albumin replacement in patient w/ major albumin deficiency.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV infusion Individualised dosage. Infusion rate: 1-2 mL/min. Max infusion rate: 30 mL/min during plasma exchange.
Contraindications
Presence or history of allergic reaction to albumin prep. Conditions in which hypervolaemia & its consequences or haemodilution could present special risk for patient eg, decompensated cardiac insufficiency, HTN, oesophageal varices, pulmonary edema, haemorrhagic diathesis, renal & post-renal anuria, severe anaemia. Dehydration.
Special Precautions
Discontinue infusion immediately if allergic reactions occur. Possibility of infectious disease transmission. Ensure adequate hydration; substitution of other blood constituents (coagulation factors, electrolytes, platelets & erythrocytes). Carefully monitor circulatory overload & hyperhydration. Administer additional electrolyte soln if required vol of human albumin exceeds 200 mL. Control coagulation & haematocrit if comparatively large vol are to be replaced. Give packed red cells if haematocrit drops <30%. Pregnancy & lactation. Age-dependent physiological plasma vol in childn.
