Indications/Uses
Acute hypotension, cardiogenic shock due to MI, trauma, endotoxic septicemia, open heart surgery, renal failure, CHF.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV infusion
Initially 2-5 mcg/kg/min then gradually increase to 5-10 mcg/kg/min. Up to 20-50 mcg/kg/min may be required in seriously ill patients.
Contraindications
Phaeochromocytoma; overt left ventricular overload.
Special Precautions
Hypovolemia, history of occlusive vascular disease.
Adverse Reactions
Occasionally slight nausea, vomiting.
