Prevention & therapy of uremia or deficient protein metabolism in chronic renal insufficiency in connection w/ limited protein in food of 40 g/day (for adults) & less; ie, generally in patients w/ GFR between 5-15 mL/min.
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Hypercalcaemia & disturbed amino acid metabolism.
Regularly monitor serum Ca & serum phosphate level w/ concomitant administration of Al hydroxide.
May lead to pathological increases of serum Ca level or intensification w/ medicaments containing Ca eg, acetolyte. Al hydroxide. Absorption may be interfered w/ drugs that form sparingly soluble compd w/ Ca eg, tetracyclines.
