Indications/Uses
Coronary occlusion, DVT, pulmonary embolism, peripheral vascular thromboembolic states, mesenteric & retinal thromboembolism.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 10-15 mg daily, according to age & body wt & adjusted w/ relation to results of daily control tests until desired level of anticoagulant activity is achieved, usually 3-6 days after initial treatment.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Severe hepatic or renal disease, actual or potential hemorrhagic conditions, severe HTN, endocarditis, ulcerations of GI & urinary tract, visceral carcinoma, neurosurgery, recent eye, brain or spinal cord surgery.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rashes, alopecia, hemorrhagic skin necrosis.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics, oral antidiabetic agents, anti-inflammatory agents, D-thyroxine, alcohol, salicylate, indomethacin, cimetidine, azapropazone, quinidine, broad-spectrum antibiotics, phenformin, tolbutamide, phenylbutazone, clofibrate, ACTH, corticosteroid, barbiturate, phenytoin, estrogen, OC, cholestyramine, carbamazepine, glutethimide, phenazone, griseofulvin & rifampicin.
