Description
Each gram of Nidol Gel contains Micronised Nimesulide 20 mg.
Action
Pharmacology: Therapeutic Properties: Nidol Gel is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which also possesses antiphlogistic and analgesic activities.
Pharmacokinetics: Following topical administration, Nimesulide Gel is quickly and well-absorbed by the skin. Peak plasma concentration is reached within 1-2 hours; the drug has a half-life of 4-5 hours.
Indications/Uses
Nidol Gel is indicated for symptomatic relief of pain associated with sprains and acute traumatic tendinitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult: Apply topically twice daily. The amount to be used depends on the area of the affected zone to be treated.
Apply homogeneously until the gel has disappeared.
Use the medicine for 7 to 15 days in total.
Children: Use in children is not recommended.
Overdosage
An overdosage of Nimesulide Gel is not very likely to occur due to its topical application, which restricts the effect mainly to the affected site.
Contraindications
Established individual hypersensitivity to nimesulide, to acetylsalicylic acid or to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Special Precautions
If local irritation develops, the use of the gel should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted wherever necessary.
Do not apply to any site affected by open skin lesions, dermatosis or infections.
Do not administer orally.
Following topical administration of Nimesulide Gel, do not use hydrating cremes, suntan lotions or alcohol-containing substances as these can stain clothing.
In patients with hepatic impairment e.g. cirrhosis, hepatitis or renal impairment e.g. renal failure, nephritis should be used with caution since nimesulide may increase those impairments.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
As the safety of Nimesulide Gel has not yet been established during pregnancy or lactation, its use is not recommended.
Side Effects
Side effects possibly related to treatment with Nimesulide Gel have been infrequently reported. The most commonly observed side effects include mild or moderate local irritation, erythema, rash, scaling, pruritus and related local reactions at the application site. Mild but transient skin discolouration and staining of clothing have been noted.
