Dosage/Direction for Use
Incomplete abortion, induction of labour IV drip infusion of 6 mU/mL, initial dose: 0.5-1 mU/min, gradually increase every 20-40 min in increments of 1-2 mU/min, repeated every 30-60 min. Postpartum hemorrhage 10-40 IU in 1,000 mL by IM inj.
Contraindications
Placental abruption, cephalopelvic disproportion, hypertonic patterns of labour. Severe toxemia, placenta praevia, protracted uterine inertia, predisposition to uterine rupture. Induction before the head is engaged, malposition of fetus, fetal distress.
Special Precautions
CV disorders.
Adverse Reactions
GI upsets, water intoxication (large doses or prolonged period).
Drug Interactions
May potentiate pressure effect of sympathetic amines.
