Ipratropium Br anhydrous
Indications/Uses
MDI Bronchodilator for maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated w/ COPD, including chronic bronchitis, emphysema & asthma. Inhalation soln Bronchodilator for the prevention & treatment of symptoms in chronic obstructive airway disorder w/ reversible bronchospasm eg, bronchial asthma & especially chronic bronchitis w/ or w/o emphysema.

Dosage/Direction for Use
MDI Adult & childn >6 yr 2 puffs qds. Max: 12 puffs. Inhalation soln Adult (including elderly) & adolescent >14 yr 0.4-2 mL. Childn 6-14 yr 0.4-1 mL, <6 yr 0.4-1 mL given under medical supervision. All doses to be diluted w/ saline up to 3-4 mL & inhaled tds-qds.

Overdosage

Hypersensitivity to atropine or its derivatives.

Special Precautions
Patients predisposed to narrow-angle glaucoma; cystic fibrosis. Pregnancy & lactation. MDI Micturition disorders (eg, prostatic hypertrophy or bladder-neck obstruction). May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Ocular complication.

Adverse Reactions
GI motility disorders, dry mouth, headache, increased heart rate, palpitations, supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, ocular accommodation disorder, nausea, urinary retention, dizziness, cough, throat irritation, bronchospasm, rash, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic reaction.
Drug Interactions
Bronchodilatory effect may be intensified by β-adrenergics & xanthine prep.
