Adult & childn >12 yrLumbar epidural administration: Surgery & caesarean section 75-150 mg in 15-30 mL (5 mg/mL). Thoracic epidural administration: Surgery 25-50 mg in 5-10 mL (5 mg/mL). Caudal epidural block 100-150 mg in 20-30 mL (5 mg/mL). Major nerve block eg, brachial plexus, femoral, sciatic 50-175 mg in 10-35 mL (5 mg/mL). Field block eg, minor nerve blocks & infiltration ≤150 mg in ≤30 mL (5 mg/mL). Childn Should be calculated on a wt basis up to 2 mg/kg.
Cardiac arrest. Acute toxicity effects on the CNS & CVS. Ventricular arrhythmia & fibrillation. Elderly & patients in poor general condition. Patients w/ partial or complete heart block; w/ advanced liver disease or severe renal dysfunction; in late stages of pregnancy; treated w/ anti-arrhythmics class III. Epidural anaesth may lead to hypotension & bradycardia. May temporarily impair locomotion & alertness.
