Action
Perofen is a non-steroidal agent with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Indications/Uses
Perofen is indicated for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthrosis and other non-rheumatoid arthropaties. It is also indicated in frozen shoulder, bursitis, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, low-back pain and in soft-tissue injuries such as sprains and strains.
Perofen is also indicated as an analgesic in dysmenorrhoea and during dental and post-operative pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
The recommended adult dose of Perofen is 600-1200mg daily in divided doses. In severe cases the dose may be increased to 1600mg daily in divided doses.
The initial dose of Perofen in dental or post-operative pain is 800mg.
The maximum daily dose of Perofen is 2400mg. The dose of Perofen for children is 20mg per kg of body weight daily.
Overdosage
There is no specific antidote to Perofen, but gastric lavage and correction of blood electrolytes are recommended.
Contraindications
Perofen is contra-indicated in patients with severe or active peptic ulceration and during pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Perofen should be given with caution in asthmatic patients especially those who have developed bronchospasm after receiving other non-steroidal agents.
Use in Pregnancy: The use of Perofen is contra-indicated during pregnancy.

Side Effects
Perofen is usually well tolerated with minor side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, skin rashes, dyspepsia and gastro-intestinal disturbances.
Drug Interactions
In therapeutic doses, no evidence of clinically significant interactions with other commonly used drugs has so far been observed. However, as with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, caution should be exercised in patients receiving oral anticoagulants and thiazide diuretics.

Incompatibilities: None.
Storage
Perofen tablets should be stored below 25°C, protected from light and moisture.
Do not use beyond the expiry date stated on container.
