Dosage/Direction for Use
Topical/Cutaneous Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses Adult: As 0.05-0.25% cream/gel/lotion/oint: Apply a thin film onto affected area bid. Rub in gently. Child: Same as adult dose. Topical/Cutaneous Plaque psoriasis Adult: As 0.25% spray: Apply a thin film onto affected area bid. Rub in gently. |
Special Precautions
Childn. Pregnancy and lactation. Patient Counselling Avoid use of occlusive dressings. Topical spray is flammable, avoid exposure to heat and flame or smoking during or immediately after application. Monitoring Parameters Monitor for hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis suppression through ACTH stimulation or urinary free cortisol test.

Adverse Reactions
Atrophy, striae, telangiectasias, burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentations, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, maceration of the skin, secondary infection, miliaria. Reversible HPA axis suppression, Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycaemia, unmasking of latent DM (from systemic absorption).

Drug Interactions
May diminish the antineoplastic effect of aldesleukin. May potentiate the hyperglycaemic effect of ceritinib. May diminish the therapeutic effect of corticorelin and hyaluronidase. May enhance the adverse/toxic effects of deferasirox.

Action
Desoximetasone is a topical corticosteroid that induces phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins (lipocortins) and sequentially inhibits the release of arachidonic acid hence depresses the formation, release, and activity of endogenous chemical mediators such as kinins, histamine, liposomal enzymes, and prostaglandins.
Absorption: Absorbed through normal skin; increased percutaneous absorption in traumatised or inflamed skin. Metabolism: Metabolised in the liver. Excretion: Via urine and faeces. |
