Contents
Dexchlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg, dexamethasone 0.5 mg
Indications/Uses
Allergic conditions requiring corticosteroid therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1 caplet 3 times daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take after meals & at bedtime.
Contraindications
Newborn & premature babies, patients w/ systemic fungal infections, receiving MAOIs, active gastric ulcer, ocular herpes simplex.
Special Precautions
Glaucoma, history of active or chronic gastric ulcer, HTN, osteoporosis, myasthenia gravis, epilepsy, heart failure, history of ulcerative colitis, prostatism, hypothyroidism. Adjust dose of antidiabetic agents in diabetics as it may increase gluconeogenesis & reduce sensitivity to insulin. Prolonged treatment may reduce body resistance to infections. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Electrolyte imbalance; musculoskeletal, ophth, metabolic & psychiatric, dermatologic, endocrine & GI disorders. Mild drowsiness, dry mouth, nose & throat, urinary retention, GI disturbances, sedation, dizziness, vertigo.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ anticoagulants may increase or reduce prothrombin time. May increase risk of hypokalemia w/ K-sparing diuretics & carbenoxolone. Metabolism of corticosteroid is increased by rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenobarb, phenytoin, primidone, aminoglutethimide, barbiturate. Antagonized hypoglycemic effect of antidiabetic agents. Concomitant use of high-dose corticosteroid w/ phenoterol, pirbuterol, reproterol, rimiterol, ritodrine, salbutamol & high-dose terbutaline may result in hypokalemia. Antagonized hypotension effect of antihypertensive drugs.
