Vit D3
Indications/Uses
Health supplement to fulfill the needs of vit D quickly in certain conditions eg, the elderly, pregnant & lactating women, high risk patients, patients w/ infectious or autoimmune diseases.
Dosage/Direction for Use
400 IU/1,000 IU 1 dispersible tab once daily. 4,000 IU 1 chewable tab daily. Max daily dose 4,000 IU for max duration of 30 days. 5,000 IU Adult & childn >12 yr 1 chewable tab once daily. Max: 5,000 IU daily.
Contraindications
4,000 IU: History of allergy. 5,000 IU: Hypersensitivty. Hypercalcemia &/or hypercalciuria. Ca nephrolithiasis, nephrocalcinosis, hypervitaminosis D. Severe kidney impairment & kidney failure.
Special Precautions
Blood level of vit D should be tested after 6 mth of treatment for 1,000 IU & after 3 mth for 4,000 IU. 4,000 IU: Kidney disease, kidney stones, liver disease, heart disease, lung disease, epilepsy, parathyroid disorders. 5,000 IU: Patients w/ kidney dysfunction or have a tendency to develop Ca nephrolithiasis. Under CV treatment ie, cardiac glycosides. Patients w/ sarcoidosis. 400 IU/1,000 IU: Babies <1 yr. 1,000 IU/4,000 IU/5,000 IU: Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
4,000 IU/5,000 IU: Pruritus, rash, urticaria. 4,000 IU: Allergic reactions (facial/tongue/lip swelling), swallow difficulties, itching, dyspnea. 5,000 IU: Severe allergic reactions, hypercalciuria, hypercalcemia.
Drug Interactions
5,000 IU: Phosphate infusion, cardiac glycosides, benzothiadiazine derivative (thiazide diuretics), vit D metabolite or analogue. Anticonvulsants ie, phenytoin, phenobarb, primidone. Rifampicin. Drugs may cause lipid malabsorption ie, orlistat, liqd paraffin, cholestyraime. Cytotoxic drugs, actinomycin, imidazole. Concomitant use w/ glucocorticoid, multivit & minerals (vit A, D, E, K, folic acid, Fe), calcitonin, etidronate, gallium nitrate, pamidronate, or plicamycin. Al hydroxide, cardiac glycoside, Mg salt, sucralfate, vit D analogue. Ca salt, conivaptan. Aripiprazole, axitinib, saxagliptin. Bile acid sequestrant, systemic corticosteroids, CYP3A4 inducers, deferasirox, mineral oil, orlistat, sevelamer, tocilizumab, hydantoin, barbiturate, primidone.
