Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of acute or delayed nausea & vomiting related to chemotherapy & RT; post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Chemotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting Adult IV Prevention: 1-3 mg by slow IV inj (over 30 sec) or as IV infusion diluted in 20-50 mL of infusion soln for over 5 min before starting chemotherapy. Treatment: 1-3 mg by slow IV inj (over 30 sec) or as IV infusion diluted in 20-50 mL of infusion soln for over 5 min. If necessary, additional dose may be given at least 10 min after the previous administration: Max dose: 9 mg/24 hr. IM Prevention & treatment: 3 mg 15 min before starting chemotherapy. If necessary, 2 subsequent dose of 3 mg may be given w/in 24 hr. Childn IV 10-40 mcg/kg diluted in 10-30 mL of infusion soln to be given for 5 min before starting chemotherapy. 1 additional dose may be given at least 10 min after previous administration w/in 24 hr. RT-induced nausea & vomiting Adult Prevention: 1-3 mg by slow IV inj (over 30 sec) or as IV infusion diluted in 20-50 mL of infusion soln to be given over 5 min before starting RT. Post-op nausea & vomiting Adult Prevention: 1 mg by slow IV inj (over 30 sec) before anesth induction. Treatment: 1 mg by slow IV inj (over 30 sec). Max: 3 mg IV w/in 1 day for patients before receiving anesth procedure in surgery. Max: 2 doses/day.
Special Precautions
May reduce lower intestinal motility. Patients w/ signs of subacute intestinal obstruction should be closely monitored after administration. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, constipation. Hypersensitivity reactions including rash & anaphylaxis. Increased liver transaminase.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ phenobarb, ketoconazole.
