Tranexamic acid
Indications/Uses
Systemic fibrinolysis eg, leukaemia, hypoplastic anaemia, purpura. Local fibrinolysis eg, bloody sputum & hemoptysis in pulmonary TB, renal & genital bleeding. Caplet: Erythema, swelling & itching in eczema or similar diseases, urticaria, toxic exanthema & drug eruption. Pharyngodynia, flare, hyperemia in tonsillitis & pharyngolaryngitis. Stomatodynia & buccal mucosal aphtha in stomatitis. Vial: Abnormal bleeding during or after prostate surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Caplet ½-1 cap 3-4 times/day. Vial 0.5-1 g or 10-15 mg/kg 2-3 times daily immediately or several days after surgery.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of thromboembolism. Vial: History of subarachnoidal bleeding, color blindness, severe renal dysfunction.
Special Precautions
Active intravascular clotting, subarachnoid haemorrhage, hematuria & renal dysfunction. Long-term use in patients w/ hereditary angioneurotic oedema. Haematuria due to renal parenchymal disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, thromboembolic complications, skin rash & eruption, pruritus, vesicobullous lesion, color blindness.
