Treatment of Radiolucent Gallstone: Recommended Dose: 8-10 mg/kg body weight/day in 2 or 3 divided doses (usually, 300 mg in the morning and night).
X-ray or USG examination should be obtained at 6-month interval for the 1st year of therapy to monitor gallstone response.
Minimum duration of therapy to dissolve gallstone is 3 months. Treatment should be continued for the next 3 months to dissolve another fragments which are not detected by x-ray or USG. If gallstone dissolution is not seen by 12 months of therapy, the treatment may be ineffective.
In cases of fragmentation of gallstones with cholelithotripsy, Ursochol should be administered 2 weeks prior to intervention and the treatment should be continued until 3 months after dissolution of gallstones. Although the symptoms subside immediately after the starting of treatment and the patients achieve stone dissolution, dosing should not be reduced or discontinued.
