Contents
Per mL Latanoprost 50 mcg, timolol maleate 6.8 mg equiv to timolol 5 mg
Indications/Uses
Reduction of IOP in patients w/ open-angle glaucoma & ocular HTN who are insufficiently responsive to topical β-blockers.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult including elderly Instill 1 drop in affected eye(s) once daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Reactive airway disease including bronchial asthma or history of bronchial asthma, severe COPD; sinus bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, SA block, 2nd- or 3rd-degree AV block, overt cardiac failure, cardiogenic shock.
Special Precautions
History of atopy or severe anaphylactic reaction to variety of allergens. Avoid use in active herpes simplex keratitis & history of recurrent herpetic keratitis. Patients w/ CV diseases & hypotension, 1st-degree heart block; severe peripheral circulatory disturbance/disorders eg, severe forms of Raynaud's disease or syndrome; asthma, mild/moderate COPD; spontaneous hypoglycaemia or w/ labile diabetes; corneal diseases; choroidal detachment; iris pigmentation, eyelid & eyelash changes. Aphakic patients, pseudophakic patients w/ torn posterior lens cap or known risk factors for macular oedema; glaucoma. May mask signs of hypoglycaemia & hyperthyroidism. Permanent heterochromia in patients receiving unilateral treatment. Punctate keratopathy, toxic ulcerative keratopathy & eye irritation due to benzalkonium Cl. Remove contact lens prior to application & reinsert after 15 min. Administer at least 5 min apart if >1 topical ophth drug is being used. Not recommended in concomitant use w/ ≥2 topical β-blockers, prostaglandins, prostaglandin analogues or derivatives. Concomitant use w/ surgical anaesth. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescents.
Adverse Reactions
Iris hyperpigmentation. Eye pain & irritation eg, stinging burning, itching, foreign body sensation.
Drug Interactions
Paradoxical IOP elevations w/ concomitant use of ≥2 prostaglandins, prostaglandin analogues or derivatives. Potential for additive effects w/ oral Ca-channel & β-blockers, antiarrhythmics, digitalis glycosides, parasympathomimetics, guanethidine. Potentiated systemic β-blockade w/ CYP2D6 inhibitors eg, quinidine, fluoxetine, paroxetine. Mydriasis w/ adrenaline (epinephrine). Potentiated hypertensive reaction to sudden clonidine w/drawal. Increased hypoglycaemic effect of antidiabetics.
