Aspirin
Indications/Uses
Secondary prevention of thrombotic cerebrovascular or CV disease in patients w/ transient ischemic attacks, stroke, acute MI, angina pectoris, CABG, atrial fibrillation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to aspirin or any other NSAIDs. Patients w/ active peptic ulceration, haemophilia & other bleeding disorders. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescent <18 yr.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ active GI lesions or w/ a history of recurrent GI lesions, ulcers, or persistent or recurring stomach disorders. Monitor for signs of GI bleeding or ulcer perforation.
Adverse Reactions
Bronchospasm; GI irritation & haemorrhage (occasionally major), other haemorrhage (eg, subconjunctival).
Drug Interactions
Enhanced hypoprothrombinemic effect & increased risk of bleeding of warfarin & other oral anticoagulants. Enhanced hypoglycemic effect of sulfonylureas (eg, chlorpropamide, tolbutamide). Concomitant w/ corticosteroids may decrease serum salicylate conc. Increased adverse effects (particularly GI & renal effects) w/ NSAIDs. Phenylbutazone, probenecid, sulfinpyrazone; methotrexate.
