Per 2-g vial Cefoperazone 1 g, sulbactam 1 g

Indications/Uses

As monotherapy for upper & lower resp tract infections, upper & lower UTI, peritonitis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, & other intra-abdominal infections, septicaemia, meningitis, skin & soft tissue infections, bone & joint infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, gonorrhoea, & other infections of the genital tract.

Dosage/Direction for Use

IV/IM Adult 2-4 g daily in equally divided doses every 12 hr. Max sulbactam dose: 4 g daily. Severe or refractory infections May be increased up to 8 g daily. Childn 40-80 mg/kg daily in equally divided doses every 6-12 hr. Serious or refractory infections May be increased up to 160 mg/kg daily in 2-4 equally divided doses. Neonates 1 wk Max sulbactam dose: Not to exceed 80 mg/kg daily in every 12 hr. Impaired renal function CrCl 15-30 mL/min Sulbactam 1 g every 12 hr. Max dose: Sulbactam 2 g daily, <15 mL/min Sulbactam 500 mg every 12 hr. Max dose: Sulbactam 1 g daily.

Hypersensitivity to penicillins, sulbactam, cefoperazone or other cephalosporins.

Special Precautions

History of hypersensitivity to a number of allergens. Discontinue if hypersensitivity reaction occurs. Patients at high risk of vit K deficiency. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. Monitor renal function if used w/ aminoglycoside. Avoid alcohol during therapy. Hepatic disease &/or biliary obstruction. Pregnancy & lactation. Pre-terms & newborns.

Adverse Reactions

Diarrhea/loose stools, nausea, vomiting; maculopapular rash, urticaria; decreased neutrophil count, Hb & hematocrits, neutropenia (in prolonged use), positive direct Coombs' test, transient eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, hypoprothrombinemia; headache, pain at inj site, fever; transient elevations of ASAT, ALAT, alkaline phosphatase & bilirubin levels.
