Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief in long-term treatment of OA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Recommended dose: 1 cap daily for 4 wk; then increased to 2 cap daily thereafter. Usual dose: 1 cap bd. Duration: Not <6 mth.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to diacerein or previous hypersensitivity to anthraquinone derivatives. Previous episode of enterocolic disturbances & IBS. Combined use w/ laxatives. Severe renal & hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Conduct complete blood & liver enzyme tests & urinalysis every 6 mth. Increased absorption w/ food. Decreased bioavailability w/ severe nutritional deficiencies. Not to be taken concomitantly w/ laxatives. Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation & in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea & abdominal pain.
Drug Interactions
Not to be administered w/ drugs that modify intestinal transit &/or quality of intestinal content eg, excess fibres or phytates. Avoid concomitant use w/ Al &/or Mg hydroxide-containing products. May increase enterocolic events w/ antibiotic &/or chemotherapy.
