Indications/Uses
Relief of inflammatory & pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid responsive dermatoses.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn Apply thin film to cover affected area once daily to bid.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Rosacea, acne, perioral dermatitis, perianal & genital pruritus; tuberculous & most viral lesions of skin, particularly herpes simplex, vaccinia, varicella. Not to be used in napkin eruptions, fungal or bacterial skin infections w/o suitable concomitant anti-infective therapy.
Special Precautions
Avoid long term continuous therapy in all patients irrespective of age. Do not use occlusion. Psoriasis, including rebound relapses following development of tolerance, risk of generalised pustular psoriasis & local systemic toxicity due to impaired barrier function of skin. Systemic absorption can produce reversible hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis suppression w/ potential for glucocorticosteroid insufficiency after w/drawal of treatment; manifestations of Cushing's syndrome while on treatment. Evaluate patients receiving large dose of potent topical steroid applied to large surface area periodically for evidence of HPA axis suppression. W/draw drug, reduce frequency of application, or substitute less potent corticosteroid if HPA axis suppression is noted. Adrenal suppression especially in infants & childn. Discontinue treatment & institute appropriate therapy if irritation develops. Not for ophth use. Visual disturbance. Consider ophth evaluation if patient presents w/ symptoms eg, blurred vision or other visual disturbances. Instruct patients not to smoke or go near naked flames due to risk of severe burns. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, maceration of skin, secondary infection, striae & miliaria. Local atrophy of skin, striae & superficial vascular dilation, particularly on the face w/ continuous application w/o interruption.
