Bifonazole
Indications/Uses
Foot mycoses, ringworm, jock itch, pityriasis versicolor; other skin fungal infection (erythrasma, superficial candidiasis of the skin).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thinly to the affected area(s) & rub in once daily, preferably in the evening, before retiring. Duration of treatment: Foot mycoses (tinea pedis, tinea pedum interdigitalis) 3 wk. Mycoses of the trunk, hands & skin folds (tinea corporis, tinea manuum, tinea inguinalis) 2-3 wk. Pityriasis, versicolor & erythrasma 2 wk. Superficial candidiasis of the skin 2-4 wk.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Monitor patients on warfarin therapy. May reduce effectiveness of latex products eg, condoms & diaphragms when applied to genital areas. Avoid use during 1st trimester of pregnancy. Discontinue lactation during treatment. Neonates, infants & toddlers.
Adverse Reactions
Pain & peripheral edema at administration site; contact & allergic dermatitis, erythema, pruritus, rash, urticaria, blister, eczema, dry skin, skin exfoliation, irritation, maceration & burning sensation.
Drug Interactions
May lead to increased INR w/ warfarin.
