Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of RA, OA & acute gouty arthritis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
OA 30 mg once daily, may be increased to 60 mg once daily. RA 90 mg once daily. Acute gouty arthritis 120 mg once daily. Max: 8 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Stroke, CVA, MI, CABG, uncontrolled HTN, CHF NYHA II-IV.
Special Precautions
Stop intake if skin rash, & signs of hypersensitivity appears. Patients w/ asthma; ischemic heart disease & those w/ risk factors for heart disease, HTN, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking & patients w/ peripheral arterial disease. Should not be used in patients w/ ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, or cerebrovascular disease. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Potential for GI (gastric & liver) & renal toxicities. Avoid in patients w/ severe hepatic impairment. Stop immediately if persistently abnormal liver enzyme values are seen. Do not use during pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances eg, GI discomfort, nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, indigestion, uncomfortable feeling or pain in the stomach; oedema, dizziness, headache, HTN, fatigue & increases in liver enzymes.
Drug Interactions
May result in changes in plasma conc w/ CYP450 inhibitor or inducer. Decreased plasma conc w/ rifampicin. Increased plasma conc of ethinyl estradiol. Oral salbutamol & minoxidil.
