Isoxsuprine HCl
Indications/Uses
Vasodilator. Arrest premature labor. Treatment of cerebral & peripheral vascular disease.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Vasodilator 10-20 mg tid-qid daily. To arrest premature labour 200-500 mcg/min IV infusion, adjusted until control is achieved. Once labour has been asserted, 10 mg IM inj every 3-8 hr for several days. Prophylaxis may be continued w/ 30-90 mg by mouth in divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals, milk or antacids to minimise GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Recent arterial hemorrhage, heart disease, premature placental separation, severe anemia, infection, hypotension, tachycardia. Not be given immediately post-partum nor be used for premature labour if there is infection.
Special Precautions
Monitor maternal & fetal heart rate during infusion. Risk of pulmonary edema in women treated for premature labor.
Adverse Reactions
Transient flushing, hypotension, tachycardia, rashes, GI disturbances. IV maternal pulmonary edema & fetal tachycardia.
Drug Interactions
May enhance antihypertensive effect of diazoxide.
