Use in drug- & disease-induced constipations. May cause abdominal pain or diarrhea. Patient w/ serious liver disorder; biliary obstruction or reduced bile acid secretion. Pregnancy. Avoid use during lactation. Low-birth-wt infants, neonates, nursing infants, infants, or ped patients. Elderly.
May interfere w/ reabsorption of bile acid prep eg, ursodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid. Effect may be attenuated w/ Al-containing antacids eg, sucralfate hydrate, aldioxa; cholestyramine, colestimide. May elevate & possibly enhance effects of digoxin, dabigatran etexilate methanesulfonate. May decrease blood level & effect of midazolam.
