Description
HYLO-COMOD is a sterile preservative-free solution containing 1 mg/mL sodium hyaluronate, a citrate buffer, sorbitol and water.
Phosphate free sterile eye drops without preservatives.
Action
If the eyes are itching, burning or easily tiring, if it feels as if there is sand, this might be due to lack of moisture on the surface of the eyes. Spending a longer time in an air-conditioned room, for example, or after intense computer work, the natural tear film that usually covers the eye surface breaks up more quickly. For the eye tissue to be fully functioning, it needs to be continuously lubricated by a tear film.
Due to surgical interventions on the eye or after injuries of the eye, the physiologic secretion of tears can be reduced. However, for the regeneration of the superficial tissues of the eye, a continuous and sufficient lubrication is necessary. The application of HYLO-COMOD supplies long lasting moisture to cornea and conjunctiva so that the physiologic process of healing is efficaciously supported.
HYLO-COMOD contains the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found in the eye but also in other parts of the body.
Due to its special physical property, it forms a regular, stable. long lasting lubricating moisture film on the ocular surface that is not easily rinsed off. It does, however, not cause blurred vision and protects the eyes from dryness and irritation for a long time.
This is particularly important if patient wears contact lenses, because the contact lens needs to swim in sufficient tear fluid in order not to cause any discomfort. HYLO-COMOD may be used while wearing contact lenses. Wearing soft or hard contact lenses will be made more comfortable by using HYLO-COMOD as it does not form crusts or deposits.
As HYLO-COMOD is preservative-free, it is usually very well tolerated.
Additionally HYLO-COMOD is free of phosphates so that complications like deposits in the cornea are avoided.
Indications/Uses
To improve the lubrication of the eye surface in eyes that are dry, burning or have foreign body sensations due to environmental conditions as well as after ophthalmosurgical interventions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HYLO-COMOD should be used according to personal feeling and/or instructions given by the eye doctor.
Generally, instill one drop of HYLO-COMOD three times a day into each eye. If necessary, it can also be used more frequently. If HYLO-COMOD is used more frequently (eg, more than 10 times per day) consult the eye doctor. HYLO-COMOD is suitable for long term treatment. Nevertheless, as with all complaints should consult the eye doctor when symptoms persist.
If patient is using any other eye drop medication, allow at least 30 minutes after applying HYLO-COMOD. HYLO-COMOD should always be used last. Eye ointments should, however, always be administered after using HYLO-COMOD.
Contraindications
Should not be used if patient has hypersensitivity to one of the ingredients.
Special Precautions
As HYLO-COMOD is preservative-free, it is well tolerated even when used over extended periods of time. In very rare cases, hypersensitive reactions like burning or excessive tearing have been reported which stop immediately when the use of HYLO-COMOD is discontinued.
HYLO-COMOD relieves the symptoms in case of more severe or persistent dry eye sensation. If the eye doctor does not mind if patient is wearing contact lenses inspite of the disease, patient may use HYLO-COMOD while wearing hard or soft contact lenses. However, in these cases, there may be some smearing on the contact lenses that will disappear after blinking a few times.
To avoid incompatibility reactions that are possible due to interactions between contact lens care products and HYLO-GEL, it is recommended to wait for about 30 minutes with the application of the eye drops after inserting contact lenses.
According to existing knowledge, HYLO-COMOD can be used in children, pregnant and breast-feeding women.
Caution For Usage
Only use HYLO-COMOD if the sealing of the folding carton was intact before the first use.
Remove cap before use.
Before the first application, turn the HYLO-COMOD bottle with its tip down and press onto the bottom of the bottle until the first drop appears at the nozzle. The bottle is now ready for further use. Hold the bottle upside down with the thumb on the shoulder of the bottle and other fingers on the bottom of the bottle.
Support the hand holding the COMOD-bottle.
Lean on head back slightly, gently pull down the lower eyelid and apply a strong and quick pressure on the middle of bottom of the bottle.
This activates the mechanism for the release of one drop. Because of the special COMOD valve system, size and speed of each drop are the same independently on how much pressure is applied. Slowly close the eyes to allow the fluid to spread evenly on the eye surface.
Replace cap immediately after use. Take care that the dropper tip is dry.
When applying the fluid, avoid any contact between the tip of the bottle and eye to the skin.
The COMOD-bottle releases 10 mL of solution which is the equivalent of approximately 300 drops. For technical reasons, a small amount remains in the bottle at the end of exhaustion.
HYLO-COMOD can be used for an unlimited period of time. Only one person should be treated with one particular bottle of HYLO-COMOD.
Storage
Store at room temperature.
HYLO-GEL can be used for 6 months after opening.
