Metoprolol tartrate
Indications/Uses
Management of HTN, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmia & MI; hyperthyroidism & migraine.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN 100 mg once daily, increased wkly to 400 mg as single daily dose or bid according to the response of patient. Maintenance: 100-200 mg daily. Angina pectoris 50-100 mg bid-tid. Cardiac arrhythmias 50 mg bid or tid, increased to 300 mg daily in divided doses if necessary.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Patients w/ heart failure unless controlled, metabolic acidosis, sinus bradycardia or partial heart block.
Special Precautions
Do not give to patients w/ bronchospasm or asthma or those w/ history of obstructive airways disease.
Adverse Reactions
Heart failure, heart block, bronchospasm; fatigue, coldness of the extremities, sleep disturbances; paraesthesia, peripheral neuropathy, myopathies; nausea & vomiting, diarrhea, constipation & abdominal cramping.
