Indications/Uses
As initial therapy diet-failed NIDDM patients, especially if overwt.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ or after meals.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Should not be used in patients w/ heart failure, dehydration, acute or chronic alcoholism, or any other conditions likely to predispose to lactic acidosis. Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Anorexia, nausea & diarrhea; metallic taste, wt loss; impaired absorption of vit B12; hypoglycemia; lactic acidosis (predominantly in patients w/ renal impairment).
Drug Interactions
May increase levels by up to 50% w/ cimetidine. Amiloride, cimetidine, digoxin, morphine, procainamide, quinidine, vancomycin, trimethoprim.
