Each film-coated tablet contains: Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) 2,000 IU.
It contains vitamin D3 which regulates the uptake and metabolism of calcium as well as the incorporation of calcium in bone tissue.
It is used for the treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiencies as well as maintenance and support of immune system function.
Adult Dose: 1 tablet daily or as prescribed by physician.
Use in children: Vitamin D3 is not intended for use in children under 12 years due to lack of study data.
What should the patient do if they miss a dose: Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Signs and symptoms of overdose: The signs and symptoms of Vitamin D3 overdose are the following: Getting sick or infected often; Fatigue or tiredness; Bone and back pain; Depression; Impaired wound healing; Bone loss; Hair loss; Muscle pain.
What to do when the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage: If the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage, consult a physician.
When should the patient not take this medicine: If the patient is allergic to Cholecalciferol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
If the patient has hypercalcaemia (increased levels of calcium in the blood) or hypercalciuria.
(increased levels of calcium in urine).
If the patient has hypervitaminosis D (increased levels of vitamin D in the blood).
If the patient has kidney stones.
Care that should be taken when taking medicine: If the patient suffers from sarcoidosis (a special type of connective tissue disease that affects the lungs, skin and joints).
When using other drugs containing vitamin D.
If the patient has kidney problems or has had kidney stones.
When should the patient consult the doctor: If any undesirable effect occurs.
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking Vitamin D3 and seek immediate medicinal help if the patient experiences symptoms of serious allergic reactions, such as: Swollen face, lips, tongue or throat; Difficulty to swallow; Hives and difficulty in breathing.
Uncommon: Hypercalcaemia and hypercalciuria.
Rare: pruritus, rash and urticaria.
What other medicine or food should be avoided while taking this medicine: Cholestyramine (used to treat high cholesterol).
Phenytoin or barbiturates (used to treat epilepsy).
Laxatives which contain paraffin oil.
Thiazide diuretics (to treat high blood pressure).
Glucocorticoids (to treat inflammation).
Cardiac glycosides (to treat heart conditions, e.g. digoxin.
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light and moisture.
