Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Deep IM inj Initially 250 mcg, further doses of 250 mcg may be administered at intervals of approx 1.5 hr. In severe cases, the interval between doses should not be <15 min, max: 2 mg (8 doses).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease. Patients w/ known active cardiac, pulmonary, renal or hepatic disease. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Should not be used for the induction of labor. Not be given IV. Patients w/ history of asthma, hypo- or HTN, CV, renal or hepatic disease, glaucoma or raised IOP, anaemia, jaundice diabetes or epilepsy.
Adverse Reactions
Breathing difficulties, asthma & wheezing. Elevated BP, dyspnoea & pulmonary oedema. Chills, headache, diaphoresis, dizziness & inj site erythema & pain.
Drug Interactions
Can potentiate effects of other oxytocics.
