Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics: Mechanism of Action: Paracetamol (Napran) is a non-narcotic analgesic-antipyretic. It produces analgesia and antipyresis similar to that of the salicylates. Paracetamol (Napran) provides analgesic activity, which is effective against pain, mild to moderate severity. However, unlike the salicylates, which act mainly against peripheral pain associated with inflammation, Paracetamol (Napran) exerts its analgesic effect by acting on the pain center of the brain.
Paracetamol (Napran) likewise, lowers body temperature by favouring heat loss through sweating. It acts on the hypothalamus to produce antipyresis, heat dissipation is increased as a result of vasodilation and enhance peripheral blood flow.
Paracetamol (Napran) is well tolerated with very minimal side effects in therapeutic does. It can be given to patients allergic to Aspirin and other pain reliever. Paracetamol (Napran) has no gastric irritant effect, hence patients with hyperacidity, peptic ulcer, and gastritis can take this product.
