Management of moderate to severe pain.

Dosage/Direction for Use

1-2 tab 4-6 hrly. Max: 8 tab/day.

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Patients who are addicted to alcohol, hypnotics, centrally acting analgesics, antipsychotic drugs. Patients w/ uncontrolled epilepsy, at risk of mental fog due to head injury or brain lesion; severe resp depression, history of aspirin-sensitive asthma; hematologic abnormality, PUD, severe renal impairment.

Special Precautions

Hepatic & renal impairment, history of epilepsy & those susceptible to seizures. Alcohol dependence. Avoid abrupt w/drawal. Concomitant use w/ CNS depressants eg, alcohol, opioids, narcotics, sedatives, phenothiazines, hypnotics, antihistamines, neuroleptics, centrally acting antihypertensive drugs, SSRIs, TCAs, antipsychotics. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.

Adverse Reactions

Pruritus, rashes, urticaria; dizziness, headache, tremors, convulsion, ataxia, confusion, hallucinations, insomnia, nervousness, paresthesia, involuntary muscle contraction, vertigo; occasionally HTN, hypotension, palpitation, tachycardia, arrhythmia; abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, dry mouth, vomiting; occasionally dyspnea.

Drug Interactions

SSRIs, TCAs, other tricyclic drugs (promethazine), opioids, neuroleptics, MAOIs (or w/in 14 days of discontinuation), carbamazepine, erythromycin, ketoconazole, CYP2D6 inhibitors eg, quinidine, metoclopramide, probenecid, cholestyramine.
