Calcium carbonate, cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), simethicone.
Description
OSTEO-D is off-white with reddish brown speckles, round and plain chewable tablet.
The product is a combined preparation with calcium carbonate, vitamin D3 and simethicone used as antacid and calcium supplement.
Each chewable tablet contains 750 mg of calcium carbonate, 10 I.U of Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3), 10 mg of Simethicone.
Indications/Uses
Used for bone strength, for correction of calcium deficiencies and used for the fast relief of hyperacidity or as daily source of extra calcium.
Dosage/Direction for Use
This medicine should be taken orally (by mouth).
Antacid: Chew 2-4 tablets as symptoms occur.
Calcium Supplement: Chew 2 tablets twice daily. Average daily consumption should not exceed 8 tablets or as prescribed by the physician.
Overdosage
If the patient takes too much calcium carbonate, call the healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.
What to do when the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage: If the patient has taken more than recommended dosage, consult a doctor.
Contraindications
If the patient is allergic to this medicine.
If the patient has higher than normal levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia). The doctor will be able to tell if the patient does.
If symptoms persist for two weeks, stop using this product and see a physician.
Special Precautions
Do not take more than 10 tablets in a 24 hour period or use the maximum dosage of this product for more than two weeks, except under the advice and supervision of a physician. Antacids may interact with certain prescription drugs. If the patient is presently taking a prescription drug, do not take this product without checking with the physician or other health professional.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, wind, feeling sick, stomach ache, diarrhea, skin rash, hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the body) or hypercalciuria (too much calcium in the urine).
Drug Interactions
Some products that may interact with this drug include: digoxin, phosphate supplements (such as potassium phosphate), sodium polystyrene sulfonate.
Calcium carbonate can decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, bisphosphonates, estramustine, iron, levothyroxine and quinolone antibiotics.
There are no specific foods that the patient must exclude when receiving this medication.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
