Cefpodoxime proxetil

Indications/Uses

Susceptible infection including gonorrhoea, otitis media, pharyngitis, lower resp tract infection eg, bronchitis & UTI.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult Resp tract infection & UTI 100-200 mg every 12 hr. Skin & soft tissue infection 200-400 mg every 12 hr. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 200 mg as single dose.

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Adverse Reactions

Hypersensitivity reactions including skin rashes, urticaria, eosinophilia, fever, reactions resembling serum sickness & anaphylaxis. Bleeding complications related to hypoprothrombinaemia &/or platelet dysfunction; nephrotoxicity, acute renal tubular necrosis, acute interstitial nephritis; transient increase of liver enzymes; overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms w/ prolonged use.

Drug Interactions

Decreased absorption w/ antacids or histamine H₂-receptor antagonists. Reduces renal excretion w/ probenecid.
