Urogenital trichomoniasis both in man & woman. Intestinal & hepatic amebiasis & giardiasis. Infections caused by anaerobic bacteria depends on possible use according to sensitivity of the causative agent.
Urogenital trichomoniasis 4 tab in a day as single dose or in 2 doses at an interval of 12 hr (total 2 g). Amebiasis & acute intestinal giardiasis 4 tab in a day as single dose or in 2 doses at an interval of 12 hr (total 2 g). Chronic carriers of amoeba 3 tab/day in a several doses for 3 days. Liver amebiasis 3 tab/day in 1 or several doses for at least 5 days. Childn 25-30 mg/kg/day w/ duration of treatment as same clinical situation as adults.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to secnidazole & other imidazole derivatives. Patients w/ organic neurological disorders. History or current history of blood dyscrasias. Pregnancy (1st trimester).
Do not take liquor/alcohol until at least 72 hr after treatment termination due to possibility of occurrence of similar reactions w/ administration of disulfiram. Carry out regular hematological tests, particularly leukocyte count when administered for more time than usual. Monitor patients for any adverse reactions, central or peripheral neuropathies. Liver encephalopathy. Stop treatment if incoordination, dizziness or mental confusion is detected. Intercourse is not recommended during treatment in all vag infections. Monitor prothrombin time carefully during concurrent administration w/ warfarin. Severe hepatic impairment. Not to be used in pregnant women & during lactation.
Risk of onset of acute confusional & psychotic states w/ disulfiram. Abdominal cramps, facial flushing, vomiting, & tachycardia w/ alcohol. Potentiates anticoagulant effect of warfarin. Increased lithium plasma levels. Risk of increased serum levels of cyclosporine. Decreased clearance of 5-fluorouracil, which yields increasing the toxicity of 5-fluorouracil. Not recommended to combine w/ non-depolarizing muscle relaxants (vecuronium Br). Increased activity of H. pylori in combination w/ amoxicillin.
P01AB07 - secnidazole ; Belongs to the class of nitroimidazole derivatives antiprotozoals. Used in the treatment amoebiasis and other protozoal diseases.
