Indications/Uses
Treatment of infections due to Staph infections of the skin & soft tissues, bones & joints, resp tract & urinary tract; otitis media, endocarditis, septicemia & meningitis. Mixed Strep infections. Prophylaxis of Staph infections during major procedures particularly in the cardiothoracic & orthopedic surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Adult 250-500 mg qid. Powd for soln 125 mg/5 mL Childn 3-10 yr 10 mL every 4-6 hr. Up to 2 yr 5 mL every 4-6 hr. 250 mg/5 mL Childn 50-100 mg/kg daily in divided doses every 6 hr.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. History of allergy especially to other drugs.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions eg, skin rashes, anaphylactic shock w/ collapse, death, angioedema or bronchospasm.
