Telday-40/Telday-80 Dosage/Direction for Use

Hypertension: Dosage must be individualized. The usual starting dose of telmisartan tablets is 40 my once a day. Blood pressure response is dose-related over the range of 20 to 80 mg. Most of the antihypertensive effect is apparent within 2 weeks and maximal reduction is generally attained after 4 weeks. When additional blood pressure reduction beyond that achieved with 80 mg telmisartan tablets is required, a diuretic may be added. In patients with severe hypertension treatment with telmisartan at doses up to 160mg alone and in combination with hydrochlorothiazide 12.5-25mg daily was well tolerated and effective. No initial dosage adjustment is necessary for elderly patients or patients with renal impairment, including those on hemodialysis. Patients on dialysis may develop orthostatic hypotension; their blood pressure should be closely monitored. It may be administered with other antihypertensive agents. It may also be administered with or without food.
Hepatic Impairment: Although telmisartan was well tolerated, it was suggested that lower doses should be considered in patients with hepatic impairment. Maximum dose of 40 mg once daily is recommended for patients with mild to moderate impairment.
